1960 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing

The Mercedes-Benz 300SL was introduced in 1954 as a two-seater coupe, immediately and forever to be known as the Gullwing for its vertical opening doors, which was the fastest production car of its day by a considerable margin. Built by Daimler-Benz AG and internally numbered W198 type, fuel injected road version was based on the company's highly successful sports racing car of 1952 only, the carburetor slightly less powerful Mercedes-Benz 300SL (W194) and model of road was suggested by the DB very influential American importer Max Hoffman. As for customers in the market for post-war expansion was introduced in 1954 the floor of the New York Auto Show, unlike previous models introduced at either the Frankfurt or Geneva shows. In Mercedes-Benz fashion, the "300" refers to three liters of engine displacement cylinder, and "SL" stood for "Sport Leicht" (Sport Light). The 300SL represented the true state of the art in terms of engineering, fuel injection, dry sump lubrication, and a light but strong construction of the space-frame. The gullwing version was available 1954-1957 and just over 1400 examples were built in all.
This magnificent 1954 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, picture number 34, is obviously a very early example from the first months of production, and was delivered new to a customer in Sweden. His next step was a little further south, the property of Mr. Hans Hürlimann, president of the Swiss club SL 300. From 1985 until 1993, the car started to Uziel Fleming, founding member of German Club 300 SL before, in 1993, world famous German Hans Kleissl restorer of HK Engineering bought the car from his own collection and repareia completely.
After such a short chain of ownership and care again is not surprising that the car was found in such excellent condition, before restoring the body need not be separated from the chassis. In 1998, the car was for its most recent owner, and in 2012 was again thoroughly checked by experts famous HK Engineering, at which time the engine underwent a complete reconstruction. Of course a car so carefully guarded must match numbers, and is presented in excellent general condition and ready for the road. These cars are fast appreciating investment and example today is still below the rates achieved in comparable cars in the U.S. lately.

  1. Opportunities are only area of the reason this is certainly one of the hottest cars to ever struck the tarmac. The fact the fact that 1957 Mercedes 300 SL was the speediest production car at the time, means driving on your ad group meetings in New york wouldn’t become a bore. Equally vehicles happen to be Mercedes 300s. The Gullwing was a great SL plus the four door used many letters depending on engine type.
